The last full weekend of September is a lovely one to be downtown in Southwest Florida. The Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market, a food and wine festival at the Opera House, free live music at Waterside Place in Lakewood Ranch, a magic show at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, and a blues brunch on the Bradenton Riverwalk all land between Friday and Monday. Downtown Sarasota This Weekend (September 25-28)

Downtown Sarasota pairs its classic Saturday farmers market with an outdoor movie night on the bayfront, a food and wine festival inside the Opera House, a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at The Bay, and a comedy headliner at McCurdy's.

Friday, September 25

Cinema at The Bay: "9 to 5"

The Bay Sarasota, 1055 Boulevard of the Arts, 7:00 to 8:40 PM. Free. Friday night the bayfront park screens the classic workplace comedy 9 to 5 under the open sky. Bring a blanket or low chair, grab a spot on the lawn, and watch the sun go down over Sarasota Bay before the film starts. Cinema events at The Bay are free and open to the public.

Cassie Jean and The Fireflies at Fogartyville

525 Kumquat Court, 8:00 PM, doors at 7:00 PM. Friday night, Cassie Jean and The Fireflies bring their Americana and roots sound to Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, the home of WSLR Community Radio just south of downtown. Tickets run about $20 for members, $25 for the general public, and $13 for students. It is an intimate, well-loved listening room.

Wyatt Cote at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre

1923 Ringling Boulevard. Comedian Wyatt Cote headlines McCurdy's Thursday through Sunday, with weekend shows Friday and Saturday night. It is a polished, laugh-heavy way to open the weekend, close to downtown's dining scene.

Music and Dinner on Main Street

Restaurants along Main Street and Palm Avenue fill early on Friday evenings, and several downtown spots book local musicians on the weekend. Lineups change weekly, so check individual venue schedules before you head out.

Saturday, September 26

Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market

Lemon Avenue and Main Street, 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Free admission. Rain or shine. The Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market has been a Saturday ritual since 1979. This week more than 70 vendors bring fresh Florida produce, prepared foods, flowers, artisan bread, and live music to Lemon Avenue. Arrive early for the best selection, then wander the sidewalk cafés on Main Street.

Sarasota Opera Food & Wine Festival

Sarasota Opera House, 61 North Pineapple Avenue, 1:00 to 4:00 PM, VIP entry at 12:30 PM. Saturday afternoon, the Opera House opens its doors for food samples and wine tastings from local eateries, with proceeds benefiting the Sarasota Youth Opera. Tickets are about $75 in advance, $85 at the door, and $150 for VIP entry.

Brunch at The Bay with Alejandra Koss

The Nest at The Bay Sarasota, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Brunch on the bayfront comes with live music by Alejandra Koss, part of the park's Hispanic Heritage Month program, which runs through October 15.

Pura Vida Weekend at The Bay

The Bay Sarasota, Saturday and Sunday. Free. This weekend the bayfront park celebrates Latino culture and wellbeing with movement, mindfulness, and creativity activities for all ages, including a Spanish-language Kayak Mangrove Discovery Tour led by Armando Ubeda with UF/IFAS. It is a welcoming, family-friendly way to spend time on the water.

Wyatt Cote at McCurdy's

McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, Friday and Saturday night shows. If you missed Friday, Saturday is the bigger night of his run.

The Ringling: Yoshida Fujio: Secret Gardens

The Ringling, 5401 Bay Shore Road, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Just north of downtown, the exhibition Yoshida Fujio: Secret Gardens is on view through early April 2027, pairing the artist's luminous watercolors with the gardens that inspired them. And through the end of September, the museum offers the Resident Special: 50 percent off admission for Sarasota and Manatee County residents every Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday, September 27

Pura Vida Weekend, Day Two at The Bay

The Bay Sarasota, free. The celebration continues Sunday with more movement, mindfulness, and creativity programming for all ages. Check The Bay's calendar for the day's lineup.

The Ringling Resident Special, Day Two

10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sunday is another chance to see Yoshida Fujio: Secret Gardens at half-price admission for Sarasota and Manatee County residents, between the museum's gardens, galleries, and bayfront grounds.

Sunday on the Bayfront

The bayfront path connecting the marina, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, and The Bay Sarasota is always free. Stop for coffee, watch the boats, and soak in the relaxed pace of a downtown Sunday.

Monday, September 28

A Quiet Start to the Week Downtown

Monday is a calm day downtown. The farmers market is a Saturday ritual, so Monday morning belongs to the cafés, the galleries, and a walk along the bayfront. The Bay Sarasota also runs free weekly fitness classes on its regular schedule, so check its calendar if you want to start the week moving on the water.

40 Carrots Partners in Play at the Library

Lakewood Ranch Library, 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Free. A free parent-child playtime for the little ones, a relaxed way to spend a Friday afternoon before the weekend picks up.

Sound Bath at The Wellness Space

The Wellness Space, 5:30 to 6:30 PM. A gentle sound bath to unwind from the week, a fitting way to ease into a slower Saturday.

Saturday, September 26

Dogs Inc. Visitor Center Grand Opening

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Free. Dogs Inc. celebrates the grand opening of its new Visitor Center with a community open house in Lakewood Ranch. It is a family-friendly day to meet the organization behind Florida's guide dogs, learn about their training, and see the campus in action.

Live Music at the Plaza

Waterside Place, 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Free. Saturday night brings another free live music set at the lakefront plaza, a favorite date-night and family outing in the district.

Live Music and Dinner at Waterside Place

Waterside Place, 1560 Lakefront Drive. The central plaza with its water features, the covered pavilion, and the surrounding restaurants make it a lovely spot for Saturday night. Try Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant, The Capital Grille, or Good Liquid Brewing Company, and watch the fountain light up as the evening settles over the lake.

Farmers Market at Lakewood Ranch

Waterside Place, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Free to browse. The award-winning farmers market returns on Sunday, consistently named one of the best farmers markets in Florida. A strong weekend lineup brings more than 100 local vendors with produce, flowers, artisan breads, prepared foods, live music, and kids' activities to the lakefront plaza.

Sunday Brunch on Main Street

Several Main Street restaurants serve Sunday brunch, from casual cafés to full-service spots that pair well with a morning at the market.

Monday, September 28

A Quiet Start to the Week by the Lake

Monday is a quiet day in Lakewood Ranch, but Main Street and Waterside Place are open for dining, shopping, and strolling, and the lakefront path at Waterside Place offers a peaceful evening walk.

Friday, September 25

House of Heavy at Oscura

Oscura, 816 Manatee Avenue East, 8:00 PM. About $23. Friday night, the live music room in downtown's evolving arts district hosts House of Heavy, a night of loud, well-played rock. It is a different tempo than the rest of the weekend, and a fun one for music fans.

Live Music on the Riverwalk

Mattison's City Grille at Bradenton Riverwalk, 101 Riverfront Boulevard. Mattison's hosts live music most nights, and Friday and Saturday evenings typically feature bands on the covered patio right on the water. Grab a seat, listen, and watch the sun set over the Manatee River.

Saturday, September 26

Oktoberfest Run

Bradenton Riverwalk, 7:30 AM. Saturday morning starts early with the Oktoberfest Run, offering 5K, 10K, and 13.1-mile distances along the riverfront. Registration is open to runners and walkers, and it is a festive, community-mileage way to open the day.

Resin Wave Seahorse Workshop

615 15th Street West, 1:00 PM. Saturday afternoon, a resin art workshop teaches you to pour a wavey seahorse piece of your own. It is a hands-on, creative hour in the arts district west of downtown.

Bradenton Fall Flea at Art House Bradenton

Art House Bradenton, 6:00 PM. Saturday evening, the city's creative community gathers for the Bradenton Fall Flea, an evening market of vendors, art, and local flavor at the Art House. A friendly, walkable way to spend a September evening.

A Night of Magic and Sophisticated Buffoonery with Cody Byrns

Manatee Performing Arts Center, 7:00 PM. Saturday night, Cody Byrns brings a blend of magic and comedy to the stage downtown. It is a polished, family-friendly performance that suits a wide range of ages.

Saturday on the Riverwalk

Bradenton Riverwalk, free. The 1.5-mile waterfront promenade is filled with walkers, joggers, cyclists, and families on Saturdays. A splash pad, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, a skate park, the Mosaic Amphitheater, a fishing pier, and open lawns keep everyone busy. Pack a picnic, rent a bike, or find a shaded bench and watch the boats along the Manatee River.

Village of the Arts

The historic arts district around the Village of the Arts is a lovely Saturday destination even between its big Art Walk weekends, which this month fell on September 4-5. Many galleries and studios keep regular weekend hours, so check the Village's events page for which studios are open this Saturday.

Live Blues Brunch at Mattison's Riverwalk Grille

101 Riverfront Boulevard, late morning into afternoon. Sunday brings a live blues brunch on the open-air patio at the Riverwalk. Blues, brunch, and the river: a genuinely Bradenton way to close the weekend.

Sunday Afternoon on the Riverwalk

Sunday afternoon is the quietest, most pleasant time on the Riverwalk, perfect for a walk or bike ride along the Manatee River. The splash pad is a favorite with families, and the pavilions offer shaded spots to sit and watch the boats and the drawbridge.

Monday, September 28

A Quiet Day by the River

Monday is a quiet day downtown. The Riverwalk, the cafés, and the shops of Old Main keep a calm rhythm, and the riverfront is an easy place to ease into the week.

Note on Bradenton Events

Downtown's own farmers market, the Bradenton Public Market on Old Main Street, runs Saturdays from October through May, so it returns next month. The Village of the Arts Art Walk & Market also returns on the first Friday and following Saturday of October. Event schedules in Bradenton can change on short notice.
